MEET THE FOUNDER
Max Yoon is the founder of Sound of Culture, a student-run music competition for aspiring youth musicians around the globe. Max began his piano journey at the age of five. Over the years, he has earned many accolades from a variety of piano competitions. In addition to the piano, Max also finds joy in playing the violin. Max is dedicated to providing a space for young musicians to feel heard and share their culture. Max has experienced firsthand how many musicians, including himself, often find themselves performing works by the same, familiar classical composers. Inspired to foster cultural exchange rather than contribute to a monolith of well-known classical music, Max founded Sound of Culture as a platform to celebrate and amplify the voices of musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds.
In many competitions, entry fees can be prohibitive, particularly for young musicians. Unlike traditional competitions that impose financial barriers, Sound of Culture is entirely free to enter. This inclusion ensures that talented musicians worldwide, regardless of background, can showcase their cultural music and share their unique stories. Through Sound of Culture, we aim to highlight the power of music to bridge cultural divides, inspire understanding, and celebrate the beauty of the diversity of music on a global stage.
